Embassy Summer at the University of Portsmouth

Our centre is located next to the seafront in a building which is part of the University of Portsmouth. Both the centre and accommodation are within a short walk of the city centre, the Historic Dockyard and the Clarence Pier.

Portsmouth has a lot to offer, with sights such as the Spinnaker Tower and Southsea Castle, and is also very close to other interesting cities such as Southampton, Chichester and Brighton. Students have a lot to explore!

  • Rooms laid out along corridors with a small communal kitchen facility on each floor
  • Each flat has got a communal room

  • Rooms and bathrooms cleaned weekly, common rooms every other day
  • Laundry available in the residence in an on-site canteen, with a packed lunch at the weekends

  • 15 minutes walking distance to classes

On-site activities are organised in between lessons and during evenings. These activities could be on-site or near to the centre. All activities are designed to continue learning in a fun and enjoyable way, encouraging students to develop life skills and make new friends through sport, activities and socially interactive games.

    • Sports such as football, mini Olympics, rounders, table tennis, volleyball and basketball
    • Daytime activities such as scavenger hunts and drama workshops
    • Evening activities such as karaoke, talent show, and team games

Excursions and Trips

Our students get to explore exciting places such as 

  • Historic Dockyard
  • Gun Wharf Keys
  • Arundel Castle

London: Visit London once per week, seeing places such as: the British Museum, the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, the National Gallery, Oxford street shopping and Hyde Park as well as the famous Westminster Walking Tour

Brighton: Enjoy this vibrant popular seaside city with beautiful architecture and visit The Sea Life Centre and The Palace Pier

Oxford: Students can get to know the other famous university city and visit one of its most famous colleges

  • Taught by friendly and professional English teachers
  • 20 x 45 minute lessons per week morning or afternoon
  • Placement test on day 1 to ensure students in appropriate level
  • Maximum 17 students per class
  • Students will be placed in an international class with students of different nationalities
  • Spacious classrooms with projectors
  • Classrooms are located across the main University building
  • Curriculum with emphasis on communication skills
  • Materials included as well as an end of course report ans a certificate
  • Trinity exam preparation available

Meals are served in a large and modern self-service dining hall in the main building.

Breakfast

Continental including juice, coffee, toast, cereal and fruit – hot breakfast on Fridays.

Lunch

2 courses, 3 options including vegetarian.
Packed lunches (provided at weekends): water, fruit, sandwich, crisps and biscuits/cake.

Evening Meal

2 courses, 3 options including vegetarian and halal option.

Snacks

There are several cafés on campus for the purchase of snacks, drinks and confectionery.

Sample Programme

Each 14 night stay will include a number of local accompanied visits to London with visits/activities and 2 full-day excursions to other major cities such as Cambridge, Brighton and Canterbury. Transport for trips may be by private coach or public transport.
Students may have lessons either in the morning or in the afternoon in week 1, alternating weekly after that.
