Brighton is a popular seaside city, with beautiful Georgian architecture, great beaches, hip cafés, and trendy shops.

Known as ‘London by the sea’, Brighton is a multi-cultural city that welcomes students of all nationalities in a warm and friendly way. Our centre is located at the University of Sussex, only a short bus or train journey away from the city centre.

The University of Sussex is a public research university located in Falmer, East Sussex. It is situated within the city boundaries of Brighton and Hove and is surrounded by the South Downs National Park.

Living

Single en-suite rooms spread across multiple residence blocks

Flats of 4 to 6 rooms

Rooms furniture includes a wardrobe, desk and chair

Laundry available for a small fee. Payment is cashless via an app

Comfortable kitchens in each flat

Meals are served in a spacious canteen

Bedrooms, bathrooms, and common areas are cleaned weekly

Bed linen is changed weekly, students must bring their own towel

Wi-Fi throughout

A deposit of £30 is required upon arrival and lost room keys cost £70

Meals are served in a large dining hall on campus

Breakfast

Hot breakfast and continental breakfast available including juice, coffee, toast, cereal and fruit.

Lunch

A minimum of 2 options available, including a vegetarian option.

Packed lunches

Water, fruit, sandwiches, crisps, and biscuits.

Dinner

A minimum of 2 options available, including a vegetarian option.

Facilities

  • Large indoor sports hall booked in advance (not available to book during the summer)
  • Plenty of outdoor areas for games and activities
  • Mini supermarket and cafes are available on campus
  • Cash machine (ATM), however the campus is completely cashless
  • Wi-Fi available in all common areas
 

Whilst delivering bespoke lesson materials, the Embassy lesson is designed to engage students in discussion, to develop the key life skills of collaboration and intercultural communication, and to provide extensive opportunities to practice and build on current language.

Lessons taught by teachers trained to deliver the Embassy Lessons

17 students per class and classes suitable for students of all levels.

15 hours a week

20 x 45 mins in UK, US and Canada

15 x 60 mins in Malta

All learning resources provided are age appropriate and all students receive an end of course certificate of attendance.

Arrival

Students will be welcomed upon arrival at the Fulton Building where they will register, check-in to their rooms, and get their room keys.

 

Welcome

On the first evening, there will be a welcome activity which is designed to ensure students have the opportunity to meet the staff, and the other students. They will get to know more about the campus, its facilities and other useful information which will help them during their stay.

 

Activities

Activities are organised before or after lessons and in the evenings. They may include:

Sports such as football, mini Olympics, rounders, table tennis, volleyball, and basketball.

Daytime activities such as scavenger hunts and drama workshops.

Evening activities such as karaoke, talent shows, and team games.

 

Getting to and From School Activities

Our students travel by coach or train for activities and excursions outside the centre.

 

Excursions and Trips

Half-day Trips

Our students get to explore exciting places such as Arundel Castle, Eastbourne, Herstmonceux Observatory as well as local visits to Brighton with the Sea Life Centre.

Full-day Excursions

London: Visit this exciting capital city and take a walking tour of central London and visit the National Gallery.

Canterbury: Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is one of the most visited cities in the UK with medieval buildings, notably the gothic architecture of Canterbury Cathedral.

Windsor Castle: Visit the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world that has been the family home to British Kings and Queens for almost 1,000 years.

Optional Trips

Thorpe Park: Home to thrilling rides, attractions and live events, Thorpe Park Resort is the ultimate destination for thrill seekers featuring some of the UK’s most popular roller coasters.

London:

London Eye: Enjoy amazing 360-degree views over London from the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel.

Madame Tussauds: Experience one of London’s best loved attractions! Star in immersive experiences and get up close and personal with more than 150 lifelike figures of your favourite celebrities.

Portsmouth: A city surrounded by the sea, Portsmouth’s history is strongly linked with the Royal Navy. The city houses some superb military and maritime museums including Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and the D-Day Story.

3 Week Sample Programmes

Extra

Each 21 night stay will include 4 to 6 visits to Brighton, 2 to 3 half-day trips to other local places/cities of interest and 3 full-day excursions to other cities such as London, Canterbury and Windsor. Transport for trips may be by private coach or public transport.

Students may have lessons either in the morning or in the afternoon in their first week, alternating weekly after that.
