  • What is your recruitment process?

    1. You complete and submit your application form.

    2. If shortlisted, you will be invited for an online interview.

    3. Following a conditional job offer, we will commence full background checks and

    4. Prior to commencement of employment, you will be invited to our pre-arrival induction and online training programmes accessed through our staff portal.

    5. On arrival at centre, you will be given a full centre specific induction. Our centre management teams will continue to support you with in-centre observations, workshops throughout your contract of employment with us

     
  • What experience do I need to work for Embassy Summer?

    Working in a summer school is fast paced and great fun.  Your days will be varied, and you will be required to engage with the students to ensure they have the best Embassy Summer experience possible.

    For all roles, we welcome applicants who can have great communication skills, have lots of energy and enthusiasm, and possess great leadership skills.

    If this is your first summer job, you will gain some amazing life skills and will grow personally and professionally, as well as making some wonderful memories.

  • What documents do I need to be able to work in the UK?

    We will ask you for your valid documents as proof of your right to work in the UK before we can progress your application to the interview stage of our recruitment process.

  • What is the typical summer contract length?

    We can offer contracts from 2-10 weeks from mid-June to the end of August depending on the centre. We can also consider split-centre contracts to accommodate your summer plans.

     

    During peak weeks, we may ask staff to temporarily move to another centre to meet operational needs. This provides staff with a good opportunity to see another centre in operation, and teachers will be able to experience different age ranges and levels. In this instance, we will reimburse the cost of transfer between centres.

  • What is the typical working week?

    All staff are contracted to 6 days per week - 1 day off per week.

    Staff will be required to carry out residential duties (typically meal supervision and bedtime duties) as part of their contracted hours.

  • Do you provide accommodation?

    Yes, we can offer onsite accommodation at all our centre locations.

  • Where will I be accommodated?

    Residential staff are accommodated in either single or shared rooms.  The majority of our centres offer single rooms, but this cannot be guaranteed.  You may need to share a bathroom, but we try our best to limit this.

    We will allocate rooms to meet our student welfare guidelines and staff members will be accommodated on student floors for supervisory reasons. 

  • Do you cater for specific dietary requirements or allergies?

    We will do our best to accommodate your dietary requirements. We recommend speaking to the Centre Manager on arrival.

    • All our centres provide a vegetarian option every mealtime.
    • Celiac diets are commonly catered for.
    • Packed lunch will be provided on full day excursions.
  • Do I have to wear an Embassy Summer uniform?

    Staff should dress appropriately for their role and will be provided with Embassy Summer t-shirts which must be worn whilst on duty.

    All employees are required to avoid attire with offensive or inappropriate drawings or sayings. Respecting our dress code is important as student’s security will often depends on it.

  • We will process staff hours every month and UK bank accounts will be credited on the 25th of each month or thereafter.

    If you do not have a UK bank account, we recommend you set up a WISE borderless online account.  It’s easy to set up!  https://wise.com/

  • Yes - We pay overtime at your unit rate (as detailed in your Term Letter) for any hours worked over your contracted weekly hours.

    Your weekly hours and any overtime will be recorded on our Time and Attendance system and any overtime hours will be included in your total hours worked during the stated pay claim periods.

  • During any period of absence, including absence by reason of sickness or industrial injury, you will not be paid salary but will continue to be entitled to accrue holiday pay. Statutory Sick Pay (“SSP”) may be paid where the relevant applicable legal requirements are met. SSP is usually payable from the fourth day of sickness absence. To obtain SSP and comply with the Company’s absence reporting requirements you must follow the notification and certification procedure described in your contract of employment. 

  • Do I need a National Insurance number to work in the UK?

    If you do not already have a National Insurance number (NINO), you should apply for one if you plan to work. This is so that the National Insurance and tax you may be liable to pay on your earnings can be recognised with HMRC. This is important, for example, if you later need to claim benefits which rely on National Insurance having been paid.

    For details of how to apply for a National Insurance number, please see GOV.UK. It is now possible to apply and verify your identity online. You may be required to attend an interview if you are unable to prove your identity online or by post.

  • Is there Wi-Fi at the centre?

    Wi-Fi is available throughout our summer school centres.

  • Does Embassy Summer have a staff portal?

    Yes, once onboarded, you will receive a link to access the staff portal where you will be able to view documents to support your employment and training.

  • What is Embassy Summer’s social media policy?

    We encourage the professional use of social media within restricted channels, such as building your staff professional profile and contributing to positive engagement with colleagues and following our organisational posts. 

    From a child and student protection perspective, you must not socially connect with students or via email or mobile.

  • Can I refer a friend or family member to work with Embassy Summer?

    YES, most definitely! And we will offer you a referral fee of £50 for each successful referral who works with us.

  • Can I bring visitors to the centre I’m working at?

    Due to our strict welfare and safeguarding policy, visitors are not permitted on site.

  • Are there laundry facilities at centre?

    Washing machines and dryers are available in each residence building or boarding house. You will have access to your centre guide with more details about the centre facilities on our staff portal.

  • Are towels provided to residential staff?

    Not all our summer school centres will provide towels. Please check with your Centre Manager prior to arrival. Linen will be provided.

  • Can I claim for damaged or lost personal belongings?

    Embassy Summer will not accept liability for any damage or loss to personal belongings. Please ensure your personal items, especially laptops and mobile phones are insured prior to arrival.

  • Will there be parking at my centre?

    Parking may not be automatically available to our summer staff.  Please discuss this with your Centre Manager before arrival. They may be able to assist you with a parking permit if needed, but this will not be guaranteed and will be subject to availability.
