Living

  • Single en-suite rooms arranged in flats containing 5 to 6 rooms
  • Communal space in each flat
  • Room furniture includes a wardrobe, desk and chair
  • Rooms are cleaned weekly
  • Meals are served in a large dining hall
  • Wi-Fi is available across all areas
  • A damage deposit of £30 is required upon arrival and replacement of lost key is £30
 

Breakfast

A range of breakfast items are typically offered. Depending on the day this could be a hot breakfast, or continental.

Lunch

There are typically 3 options available, including a vegetarian option.

Packed lunches

Typically includes water, a fruit, a main item (a sandwich or a wrap for example) and a snack (a chocolate or biscuit for example).

Dinner

There are typically 3 options available, including a vegetarian.

 

 

 

Whilst delivering bespoke lesson materials, the Embassy lesson is designed to engage students in discussion, to develop the key life skills of collaboration and intercultural communication, and to provide extensive opportunities to practice and build on current language.

Lessons taught by teachers trained to deliver the Embassy Lessons

17 students per class and classes suitable for students of all levels.

15 hours a week

20 x 45 mins in UK, US and Canada

15 x 60 mins in Malta

All learning resources provided are age appropriate and all students receive an end of course certificate of attendance.

Arrival

Students will be welcomed upon arrival at Newcastle University where they will register and get their room keys so that they can check in to their rooms.

 

Welcome

On the first evening there will be a welcome activity which is designed to ensure students have the opportunity to meet staff and other students and get to know more about the campus, its facilities and useful information which will help them during their stay.

 

Activities

Activities are organised every Monday to Friday and every evening all week, for students not on a prepaid excursion or any additional optional trips. These activities could be on-site or near to the centre. These may include:

  • Sports such as football, mini Olympics, rounders, table tennis, volleyball and basketball
  • Daytime activities such as scavenger hunts and drama workshops
  • Evening activities such as karaoke, talent show and team games
 

Getting to and From School Activities

Our students travel by coach or train for all activities and excursions outside the centre.

Excursions and Trips

Half-day Trips
  • Durham and Durham Castle: Discover the historic city of Durham and visit the impressive Durham Castle a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore its medieval architecture, scenic riverside views, and vibrant cultural atmosphere.
  • Hexham: Visit this charming market town known for its rich history, cobbled streets, and the see the stunning Hexham Abbey. Offering a mix of heritage and local character, this is the perfect destination for leisurely exploration.
Full-day Excursions
  • Edinburgh: Explore Scotland’s iconic capital city, with its dramatic architecture, historic Royal Mile, and rich cultural and literary heritage.
  • York: Step back in time in York, a city steeped in history with its well-preserved medieval walls, and explore the grand York Minster. A historic visit filled with character.

  • Alnwick Castle: Visit the majestic Alnwick Castle, famed as a filming location for Harry Potter and Downtown Abbey
  • Leeds: Experience the vibrant city of Leeds, known for its diverse shopping, cultural landmarks, and lively art scene. Including a visit to the well-renowned Royal Armouries Museum, the city is also a great location for admiring the Victorian-era architecture.
  • Newcastle Castle: Discover the 12th Century fortress that gave the city its name. 
  • St. James' Park Stadium Tour: Go behind the scenes at St James’ Park, home to Newcastle United. 
  • Life Science Centre: Engage with interactive science exhibits, live demonstrations, and immersive experiences perfect for sparking curiosity in visitors of all ages.
  • Leeds: Experience the vibrant city of Leeds, known for its diverse shopping, cultural landmarks, and lively art scene. 
  • Victoria Tunnel Tour: Venture underground to discover Newcastle’s 19th Century Victoria Tunnel, which was used as an air-raid shelter during World War Two.
  • Inflate Space: An exciting indoor inflatable park featuring obstacle courses, slides, and bounce areas.

          Sample Timetable

Each 14 night stay will include 2 half-day trips exciting places/cities such as Windsor Castle and Henley Upon Thames or Marlow, and 4 full-day excursions to other major cities such as London, Oxford and Brighton. Transport for trips may be by private coach or public transport.

If a student needs medical attention an Embassy staff member will help make an appointment. Group Leaders must accompany the student to an appointment. An Embassy staff member will accompany any student that is not part of a group.
