Embassy Summer at LIU Brooklyn
Our centre is located on the city campus of Long Island University Brooklyn, just one subway stop from from Manhattan and a short walk to the iconic Brooklyn Bridge and the East River.
The breath-taking Manhattan skyline can be viewed from Brooklyn Heights and Promenade. The Empire State Building, Central Park, Times Square and all the exciting attractions of Manhattan are all within easy reach on the subway.
This programme does NOT include accommodation. We recommend that parents book accommodation within easy reach of LIU Brooklyn.
The classroom is at the heart of your New York Junior English Course. English Lessons are student-centred and encourage the development of relevant language skills.
- 20 x 45 minute lessons per week
- Taught by friendly and professional English teachers
- Placement test on day 1 to ensure students in appropriate level
- Maximum 17 students per class
- Students will be placed in an international class with students of different nationalities
- Standard classrooms
- Classrooms are located on campus
- Curriculum with emphasis on communication skills
- Materials included as well as an end of course report and certificate
Arrival
Students will be welcomed upon arrival at the Embassy Summer office where they will register.
Welcome
On the first day there will be a welcome activity which is designed to ensure students have the opportunity to meet staff and other students and get to know more about the campus, its facilities and useful information which will help them during their days.
Activities
Activities are organised in between lessons and during afternoons. These activities could be on-site or near to the centre. These may include:
Sports such as football, volleyball and basketball
Excursions and Trips
Coney Island: The original Brooklyn Beach theme park.
Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island: Students can take a ferry ride to Liberty Island and view this iconic statue. Visit Ellis Island the former gateway of millions of people who immigrated to the USA.
Metropolitan Museum of Art: Also known as ‘the Met’, this is one of the biggest and most important art museums in the world. Students also get to explore the Upper East Side.
Empire Outlets: NYC’s only outlet shopping destination with high-quality clothes and shoes from the biggest brands.
Macy’s 34th street: More shopping in what is known as ‘the world’s largest store’!
Bronx Zoo: The biggest city zoo in USA with over 650 species.
Madame Tussauds: Located in Times Square, this gives our students the possibility to ‘meet’ with the stars.
Broadway show: Students get to pick to see one of the shows available.
Guggenheim Museum: A world-famous art museum in a beautiful building.
