Our Oxford Wheatley summer school takes place on the Wheatley campus of Oxford Brookes University just seven miles outside the centre of Oxford in the lovely and historic village of Wheatley surrounded by beautiful countryside.
While the campus is outside the city centre, one trip per week into Oxford is included in the programme and in addition a regular bus service operates between Wheatley campus and the city centre.
Accommodation
Summer school students are accommodated in several low-rise blocks, with three floors in each. Each block contains between 21 and 24 rooms and these are a mixture of single and twin study bedrooms with washbasins.
Bathrooms are shared on a ratio of between 4 – 6 bedrooms, to every bathroom. An on-site laundrette with washers and dryers is available for student use.
Security: On site and 24-hours a day. The main entrance to the campus is accessed via a barrier next to the security lodge.
Facilities
- Classrooms:Lessons take place in modern, well-equipped classrooms at a building close to the accommodation.
- Sports facilities: These comprise 3 large playing fields, 6 tennis courts, a large multi-purpose court which divides into two playing areas for netball, basketball etc. and two all-weather 5-a-side pitches.
- Dining Hall: Large, brightly-decorated room with modern furniture where all students take breakfast, lunch and dinner. Packed lunches are provided for full day trips at the weekend.
- Common room:There is a large hall with and a smaller activity area. There is also a student café with a recreational area which is also used for discos.
- Email: Students will have access to a PC suite two evenings a week on a limited rota basis.

Daytime activities
- Sports: Football, Rounders, Netball, Uni-Hoc, Aerobics and Tennis.
- Non-sports: Show rehearsals, Crafts and Treasure Hunts.
- Local visits:Trinity College, Natural History Museum, Carfax College or St Catherine's College Oxford, The Three Towers and the Ashmolean Museum. Town walks: Introductory town walk, South Oxford walk, North Oxford walk and Covered Market.
Evening activities
- Blind Date, International Show, Discos, Talent Show, Fashion Show, 'It's a Knockout' and Karaoke.

Excursions**
Included in the course price:
- One full-day excursion by coach each week.
- Three half-day excursions each week. Two of these are trips into Oxford. The third half-day is an excursion outside of the Oxford area.
- Transport for local visits not included.

- Salisbury: Salisbury is an historic city in the county of Wiltshire where you'll also find the magnificent ancient monument of Stonehenge.
- Stratford-Upon-Avon: Famous as the birthplace of playwright William Shakespeare, visit historic English buildings dating back centuries.
Examples of typical optional excursions:
- Buckingham Palace: Visit the Queen's Gallery and, during a few weeks of summer the state rooms at the British Monarch's primary home.
- Brighton Royal Pavilion: An unusual and decorative palace that is influenced by oriental styles.
- Chessington World of Adventures: A zoo and theme park on the edge of Greater London, with roller-coasters and water rides.
- London Eye: Take a ride on Europe's tallest ferris wheel and enjoy fantastic views over London.
- Madame Tussauds & Marvel 4D Experience: Waxwork museum, now with a unique 4D cinema, where you 'feel’ the film as well as see it!
- Shakespeare’s Globe Exhibition & Rose Tour: Visit the site of two 16th century theatres, the rebuilt Globe Theatre, and the excavated Rose Theatre, both on London's South Bank.
- Thorpe Park: A leading theme park offering over thirty extreme rides and attractions.
- Tower of London: For centuries this palace, with its prison tower was the place of many royal executions.
