    University College London (UCL) is consistently ranked as a top five university in the United Kingdom and a top 25 university in the world.

    There are two summer school options at University College London, UCL Halls and Ramsay Hall. Both are based UCL district in Central London, near Bloomsbury.

    If you are looking to learn English in one of the world’s leading universities whilst enjoying all the best sites that London has to offer then Embassy Summer at UCL is for you.

    Accommodation

    There is a choice of two halls for you to book:

    1. Ramsay Hall (full board catering*)
      This residence has been refurbished in recent years and is just a short 5-minute walk from the classrooms. Single or twin rooms with washbasins are available. Bathrooms are shared between bedrooms in a ratio of 5 bedrooms to 1 bathroom.
    2. UCL Halls (semi–self catering)
      Standard single or twin rooms with a washbasin are available. Bathrooms are shared between bedrooms in a ratio of 5 bedrooms to 1 bathroom. Kitchens are in each of these halls.

    Security: There is 24 hour security on site in Ramsay Hall. Anyone with an emergency during the night should call the centre mobile number which will be given to all students on arrival. All other UCL Halls have Embassy Sumer staff on call throughout the night.

    Facilities

    • Sports facilities: All sports are held in the parks of central London.
    • Dining Hall - Ramsay Hall: Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining hall at the residence. Lunch is served at the UCL campus. Vouchers are issued for purchasing lunch at the weekend.
    • Dining Hall - UCL Halls: Lunch is served at the UCL campus. Vouchers are issued for purchasing breakfast, dinner and all meals at the weekend. Vouchers can be used at supermarkets or restaurants.
    • Common room: In Ramsay Hall there is a television lounge, games room and a bar which is used for many of the social evenings.
    • Email: Internet access is not available at the residence – however there are internet cafes nearby.

    Activities*

    Daytime activities

    • Sports: Football, Baseball and Mini-Olympics in local parks.
    • London Visits: (Bank Museum, British Museum, Imperial War Museum, Museum of Childhood, National Gallery, Natural History Museum, National Maritime Museum, National Portrait Gallery, Royal Courts of Justice, Science Museum, Tate Britain, Tate Modern and Victoria & Albert Museum.) Various walks: St. Pauls Cathedral. River cruise on the Thames, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Tower Bridge Experience, London Dungeon.

    Evening activities

    • International Night, Discos, Quiz, Extravaganza, Karaoke and Films.
      Over 18s only: Pub and bar visits.

    Excursions**

    Included in the course price:

    • One full-day excursion per week by coach or train
    • At least 3 half-day visits to museums and attractions in London by underground each week (Note: students will need to purchase their own travel cards to take advantage of this. Travel cost approximate £15 for children (15 and under) and £30 for adults (in 2012).

    Examples of typical included excursions:

    • London: The UK capital offers an unrivalled choice of shopping, world-class galleries, museums and so much more.
    • Brighton: Just one hour from London, Brighton is an historic and colourful city by the sea with great shops, palace, pier, bars and restaurants.
    • Cambridge: This historic city, with its grand universities and museums, narrow streets and shops can all be enjoyed on foot.
    • Canterbury: An historic cathedral city, which is the centre of the Church of England.
    • Oxford: Home to England's oldest university, you'll enjoy exploring Oxford's grand buildings, containing museums, shops and colleges

    Examples of typical optional excursions:

    • Buckingham Palace: Visit the Queen's Gallery and, during a few weeks of summer the state rooms at the British Monarch's primary home.
    • Hampton Court Palace: A 16th century, large and impressive palace with extensive gardens.
    • Kew Gardens: Huge garden estate housing the World's largest collection of living plants.
    • London Eye: Take a ride on Europe's tallest ferris wheel and enjoy fantastic views over London.
    • Madame Tussauds & Marvel 4D Experience: Waxwork museum, now with a unique 4D cinema, where you 'feel' the film as well as see it!
    • Tower of London: For centuries this palace, with its prison tower was the place of many royal executions.
    • Windsor Castle: Visit the Queen's favourite weekend home. The oldest, and largest, inhabited castle in the world.
