Frequently asked questions

Share

Will my child be met at the airport on arrival and taken back to the airport when they leave?

Yes. For individual bookings who have requested an airport or station transfer service, each student will be met at the airport by a taxi driver arranged by Embassy Summer. The driver will be carrying an official orange Embassy sign, with the student’s family name and centre they are going to.

At the end of the stay, your son or daughter will be accompanied back to the airport, and given help to go through the airport check-in process.

Students who are travelling with a group booking will be met at the airport (or station) by one of our Embassy staff, who will wear orange Embassy t-shirts.

The Embassy staff will carry a sign with the group leader name, agency name and centre name on it, and will lead the group to the coach which will take them to the centre.

What qualifications do your staff have?

All of our teaching staff are qualified TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teachers, with a recognised TEFL qualification.

Embassy Summer is a member of all the significant official national organisations in the USA, the UK and in Australia which regulate language schools. This ensures that we meet the highest possible quality standards.

My child needs a special diet.  Is it possible for the centres to cater for different diets?

Yes, all the Embassy Summer Schools can cater for different dietary requirements, as long as we are told in advance at the time of booking. Please add a note to the on-line booking form, and your on-line Advisor will get in touch.

How much pocket money should my child bring? How is pocket money kept safe?

Embassy Summer team will keep any individual students’ pocket money and important documents in the office safe at the centre. Students will be allowed access to their money at set times.

We suggest a maximum of £50 per week for each student to take as personal money, should they wish to buy into any of the optional trips or activities, and for their own personal shopping.

What are the rules about behaviour? What happens if a student breaks the rules?

The rules of behaviour for each centre will be sent in to each parent in the pre-course information. By making the booking, the student has agreed to behave according to the rules.

The consequences for bad behaviour or breaking the rules depends on the age of the student and their actions, but Embassy can if necessary remove a student from the programme, or even arrange to send them home, without refund of fees.

Behaviour which is not permitted includes:
  • Leaving the school unaccompanied or being absent from lessons, activities or meals for any students under the age of 18
  • Purchasing or drinking alcohol while under age (according to local age laws)
  • Possession of illegal substances
  • Threatening or bullying behaviour
  • Smoking on schools premises, coaches or public transport or other areas where smoking is forbidden

Before your child arrives at the centre, each parent will be sent the pre-course  information pack,  which gives you the contact details of the centre, the  emergency phone number,  and information  about the best time to contact your child while they are at the centre.  Our staff will help your child contact you when they have arrived.

Can a student leave the centre for a short time if they have permission from their parents? For example, to visit a relative who lives near to the centre.

We are very happy to have parents or relatives visit the centre, as long as you contact the centre in advance to arrange this.

It is also permissible to have a parent or relative take a student out of the centre for a short time, again as long as they have contacted the centre in advance to arrange this.

Parents or relatives who accompany the student away from the centre will be asked to sign an absentee form, to leave their passport with the Embassy centre office, and to give a contact number in case of emergency.
