Our summer school in Bristol is located on the Frenchay Campus of the University of the West of England. The campus is in self-contained grounds and just 20 minutes north of the historic city of Bristol.

With its grand architecture, independent shops, theatres and restaurants, Bristol is a vibrant city with a strong identity. Should you explore further, the historic Roman city of Bath, ancient monument of Stonehenge and the countryside of South Wales are all close by.

Accommodation

Stay in the newly built ‘Student Village’, near to the main university buildings.

All bedrooms are single rooms with private en-suite bathrooms. The rooms are arranged into ‘flats’ of six, which share a lounge area.

Security: Each accommodation block has a reception area with help available 24-hours a day, and the site is also monitored by CCTV camera for your added peace of mind.

Facilities

  • Classrooms: Modern, spacious and well-equipped.
  • Sports facilities: New sports centre with two sports halls and a dance studio. Astroturf football pitch.
  • Common areas: Student union for evening discos and lots of outdoor areas.
  • Dining Hall: Large bright dining hall serving hot and cold meals with vegetarian option, salads, fruit and desserts.
  • Shops: There are a variety of shops on campus selling everything from food, books, toiletries and also a bank.
  • Email: A computer room is available at certain times.

  • Oxford: Home to England's oldest university, you'll enjoy exploring Oxford's grand buildings, containing museums, shops and colleges.
  • Cardiff: The capital of Wales, one of the countries that make up the United Kingdom.

Examples of typical optional excursions:

  • Bristol Zoo: The zoo breeds endangered species, see these rare animals for yourself.
  • Welsh Castles: Cardiff Castle has a history dating back over 1000 years. Caerphilly Castle built on an island in a lake has 800 years of history and is the second largest in the UK.
  • Wookey Hole: Series of caves and underground lakes, light show and circus in Somerset.
  • National Show Caves: Voted one of the country's greatest natural wonders, these show caves are located in Wales.
  • Tintern Abbey & Wye Valley: Ruined Abbey surrounded by pleasant green countryside.
