There are two types of accommodation available:
Where the accommodation is residential, you’ll be living in specially built accommodation designed for students. This may be on-campus, or in a building a short distance away from the place of study.
Rooms are usually single rooms (one bed) or twin-bed rooms (shared by two students). Some of our schools, have a traditional "dormitory" style of accommodation, with up to 8 beds in a large room.
For each student there will be a bed, and a desk and chair.
The toilet and bathroom facilities may be shared between more than one room. In many centres, there are rooms with en-suite toilet, and shower or bath.
Campus residence accommodation will have either keys, or “swipe cards” (ID cards) to enter the accommodation. However, those centres with a UK boarding school dormitory will not issue keys to the bedrooms.
At campus residences, Embassy Summer provides night-wardens who patrol the site throughout the night, and provide excellent security and supervision.
Many of the campuses also have night-security teams available.
If you’re staying in residential accommodation, all your meals will be provided for you, either at the residence or at the study centre. On full-day trips out, a packed lunch will be provided.
There’s a wide range of good, nutritious food served, usually in a canteen self-service. There are always vegetarian options for each meal. If you need a special diet, this can be catered for.
In a small number of centres, Embassy offers students Homestay accommodation – the chance to live with a host family. You can live as part of an English-speaking household, speaking English at all times, and learning about the culture, customs and lifestyles of their host country.
Students are matched to households with great care, taking into account factors such as other children, pets and lifestyles. Embassy has rigorous standards for selecting and inspecting our host families.
Host families are normally located either within walking distance of the college or a bus ride away (students will have to pay their own bus fares).
You will eat breakfast and evening meals with your host family (you’ll be provided with a hot lunch at the study centre, on Mondays to Fridays). You will also be treated as a member of the household– and this includes following all the rules of the house, in matters such as keeping your room tidy, and curfew times.
Embassy expects its students to demonstrate the highest standards of behaviour while with their hosts.
It is Embassy policy to place two or three students with each host (in exceptional cases, four students per household). Generally we do not place students of the same nationality together.
For junior students coming as part of a group, we may place a student with another student of the same group, and the same nationality (or language) in the same household. We find this helps junior students feel more relaxed and confident. For these students, we will discuss this placement at the time of booking.
No students under the age of 12 will be accepted in homestay accommodation, and please note that in Cambridge the minimum age is 14 years.
